REMOTE INTERVENTION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY OF ADMINISTRATIVE WORKERS
Abstract
Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of modifying the level of physical activity and sedentary behavior of administrative workers through a technological intervention. Methods: The LEV Program associated the sending of text messages, newsletters and online coaching sessions to the Social Cognitive Theory. The sample consisted of 30 workers, mostly (90%) female, aged 42±1.48 years and BMI 25.7±0.86 kg/m². All intervention processes (messages, newsletters, online coaching sessions) took place via whatsapp. Participants wore the accelerometer on their waist, during a seven-day vigil period, in three evaluation moments (PRE, MIDDLE and POST). Self-efficacy and Barriers to the Practice of Physical Activity were evaluated by validated scales. Results: The results did not indicate significant changes for light or moderate to vigorous physical activity (p=0.16 and p=0.305, respectively) between any of the moments. There were also no differences for sedentary behavior (492.80 to 456.30 min/day – p=0.09) and perceived self-efficacy (1.40 to 1.53 – p=0.24) comparing the PRE and POST moments. Regarding the barriers to physical activity, a change from 2.7 to 3.5 (p=0.001) was noted in the average of the workers' responses comparing the PRE and POST moments of the intervention. Conclusion: Therefore, the proposed intervention was not effective to promote changes in physical activity and sedentary behavior of the evaluated servers.
