Comparison of the affective response, fun and subjective perception of effort after training in Indoor Cycling, Fit Dance, Functional Training and CrossFit
Abstract
Objective: To evaluate and compare the affective response, fun and subjective perception of effort (RPE) after a training session in Indoor Cycling, Fit Dance, Functional Training and CrossFit. Methods: It is characterized as transversal and analytical. Composed of 115 participants, 99 women and 16 men, practitioners of Indoor Cycling, Fit Dance, Functional Training and CrossFit from two gyms located in the city of Anápolis, Goiás. The affective responses were evaluated using the affective valence scale, fun through the adapted version of the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale, and PSE was evaluated through the Borg Scale. All assessments were made after a regular training session for the modalities. To compare the affective response, fun and RPE between the modalities, the Kruskal–Wallis test and Dunn's post hoc test were used. Results: Functional Training had lower scores (4.2 ± 0.9) compared to Fit Dance (4.8 ± 0.5, p= 0.001) and CrossFit (5 ± 0, p= 0.001) in relation to affective responses. Regarding fun, Functional Training (21 ± 3.1) was less fun compared to Fit Dance (22.9 ± 0.4, p= 0.017), Indoor Cycling (24.1 ± 3.3, p= 0.006) and CrossFit (22.9 ± 0.3, p= 0.04). RPE was lower in Fit Dance (13.5 ± 3.9) compared to Indoor Cycling (17 ± 1.8, p <0.001) and Functional Training (16.3 ± 2.4, p= 0.007). Conclusion: Functional Training is the least fun and least pleasurable modality, while Fit Dance is the least intense.
