GUIDELINES FOR PUBLICATION

The Acta Biologica Brasiliensia Journal publishes original scientific articles free of charge, in four sections:

  1. Biotechnology and Production
  2. Education
  3. Environment and Biodiversity
  4. Health

Articles containing results of scientific research, literature reviews, or notes are accepted. Works of recognized scientific value that have already been presented at scientific events, even if already published in proceedings, may be submitted, provided they present additional results or a different approach from that previously presented, without plagiarism or copying parts of the text.

The content presented in the article is the sole responsibility of the authors.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Each article must have a minimum of 3 (three) and a maximum of 30 (thirty) pages. Manuscripts must be submitted in Portuguese or English. However, it is mandatory that the work includes a title, abstract, and keywords in both Portuguese and English. If the authors choose to publish in English, and are not native English speakers, it is recommended that the text be reviewed by a specialized company.

The article text must be typed in a LibreOffice Writer, Open Office, or Microsoft Office Word word processor, with the extension .odf, .doc, or .docx.

The manuscript pages should be 20 cm x 27 cm, with the text aligned in one column and 1.5 line spacing. The margins should have a top and bottom limit of 2.5 cm and a left and right limit of 3.0 cm. Each paragraph should have a special indentation of 1.25 cm on its first line.

Prior Authorizations

The responsibility for the content presented in the manuscript rests solely and exclusively with the author(s). The author(s) must verify and request prior permissions for the reproduction of content, such as images and data already published. It is also the sole responsibility of the authors to obtain prior approval of their research from the respective ethics committees, as well as any registrations for the use of genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge in SisGen (or equivalent agency) and licenses from environmental agencies at different levels.

Copyright Statement

The Journal encourages the author(s) of a published article to distribute their work through physical or digital channels, always citing the first edition.

The author(s) retain(s) the rights to the published material. However, publication automatically implies the transfer of copyright, without payment from the journal.

Submission

The manuscript must be submitted strictly following the Journal's instructions for preparation and submission, or it will be returned to the authors. The contribution must be original and unpublished, and cannot be submitted simultaneously to another journal.

Files must have a maximum size of 6 MB.

The manuscript must be submitted to the Journal through the Open Journal Systems and formatted exactly as per the Template.

Manuscript Evaluation

Manuscript evaluation is conducted according to a blind peer review system. In this system, each work is examined by at least two ad hoc consultants with recognized expertise in the field.

The identity of the reviewers remains confidential.

After acceptance of the article, the Editorial Team reserves the right to make the necessary adjustments to ensure the quality, standardization, and suitability of the work to the journal's standards. Minor edits may be made without altering the content of the article, which is the sole responsibility of the authors. This right includes editing and revision, structural adjustments, classification (original article, review, or note), proofreading, and title/abstract changes (only minor adjustments).

Evaluation Criteria

Works are evaluated by ad hoc consultants, following these criteria:

  1. Is the topic relevant?
  2. Does the manuscript provide relevant scientific information and contribute to knowledge in the field?
  3. Is the article complete, i.e., does it have a beginning, middle, and end?
  4. Does the title reflect the content of the article?
  5. Does the abstract provide a concise summary of the work, including the objectives, methodology, and main research results?
  6. Are the keywords presented appropriate, adequate, and common?
  7. Is the introduction well-structured? Does it contain a description and history of the problem to be investigated? Does it present a rationale for the variables that were studied? Does it describe the definition of specific terms and the objective of the research?
  8. Are the number and nature of citations appropriate? Are the citations current?
  9. Is the methodology appropriate to the proposed objective? Does it include a description of the materials and methods used to develop the research? Does it indicate the techniques and processes of investigation? Is the data collection procedure clear to allow the research to be replicable?
  10. Are the results described coherently?
  11. Are the bibliographies used in the discussion necessary and relevant?
  12. Does the statistical analysis, if any, support the discussion?
  13. Are all figures and tables necessary for understanding the work? Are the data presented in the figures and tables consistent with the results? Do they have sufficiently explanatory legends, and is the information contained therein not repeated in the text? Are the data to be used to support the discussion and conclusions presented? Do the figures and tables have good graphic quality?
  14. Does the author relate their results to those obtained by other authors?
  15. Are the conclusions and recommendations valid and based on the results presented? Are they supported by evidence and related to the initial objectives?
  16. Provide comments to guide the author and editor on your decision, without identifying yourself.
