The use of medicinal plants without caution and monitoring can cause reactions of intrinsic and extrinsic causes. Research aimed at the safe use of medicinal plants is still scarce, therefore, the objective of this work is to evaluate the dermal toxicity of oleoresin from copaiba, one of the main natural resources used for various therapeutic purposes by the traditional community. To verify the dermal toxicity of C. reticulata Ducke ointment, the recommendations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) 404/2015 protocol were used, both in natura form and as a 10% ointment, in a single application and during 14 days on the back of wistar rats. After the test, it was possible to verify that the use of C. reticulata Ducke oleoresin in natura can cause irritating/corrosive effects, differently from its ointment formulation.
