Abstract

The diet of Barcholos ternetzi is described based on the stomach contents of 24 species from Fazenda Portal do Céu in the municipality of Novo Gama, GO. The individuals were collected between april and october 2006. The analyzed stomach contents consisted of 228 food items, belonging to 13 categories. Plant material (83.33%), Formicidae (66.66%) and Coleoptera (45.83%) were the most frequent items. Numerically the most found items were Isoptera and Formicidae with 35.96% and 32.89%, respectively. Blattaria (53.73%) was the most representative in terms of volume. The trophic niche widths for number and volume of prey were respectively 3.95 and 2.91. The most important items of importance were Plant Material (46.05%), Formicidae (34.60%), Blattaria (30.19%) and Isoptera (29.79%). The analysis of the diet of B. ternetzi is an important component of its natural history, clarifying many of its ecological interactions, contributing to the conservation and preservation of the species.
