Abstract

The way insects are raised is closely related to the success and results of research in the field. The maintenance of vivariums requires knowledge to obtain healthy and quality individuals. The objective of the study is to describe and test the viability of the methodology for creating three species of cockroaches under laboratory conditions. At the Nico Nieser Ecology & Evolution laboratory at the Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro, three species of Blattaria Burmeister, 1829 are kept separate in plastic boxes (30 x 40 cm), with holes in the ventilation cover and with petroleum jelly at the edges to prevent leakage. of animals, or entry of eventual contamination. Pinus spp. Wood shavings are deposited inside each box. sifted, an egg carton or cardboard roll, a Petri dish with paper towels for desedentation and the food arranged under the sawdust. The vivarium has controlled lighting conditions for 12 hours light / dark and the temperature is maintained below 26°C. This breeding methodology proved to be effective for the chosen cockroach species, which had high biotic potential and survival rate.
