Abstract

Objective: To analyze the influence of low-to-moderate physical activity on the force of contraction of the pelvic floor muscles (PFM) in incontinent women. Methods: This systematic review (CRD42022299709) was performed using MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane, Web of Science, SPORTDiscus and Virtual Health Library databases. Clinical trials that analyzed the effects of physical activities on the strength of PFM contraction in incontinent women were included, based on perineometry and palpation. The PEDro and Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies scales determined the studies' risk of bias. Results: Three clinical trials were included. There was an improvement in PFM contraction strength in low to moderate impact activities such as belly dancing, Pilates and hip strengthening. Conclusion: Low to moderate impact physical activities resulted in an improvement in the strength of PFM contraction in incontinent women aged 45 years and over.
