Factors associated with limitation of functional mobility in elderly people with dynapenia: a systematic review
Abstract
Abstract: The increasing increase in population aging has led to a significant increase in the elderly population, resulting in challenges for public health. With aging, there is a reduction in functional mobility due to numerous related factors, including dynapenia, the age-related decrease in muscle strength. Regular physical activity has been identified as a beneficial intervention, but it is crucial to understand the determinants of functional mobility limitations in elderly people with dynapenia. Objective: Systematize the production of scientific articles on dynapenia in the elderly, investigating factors associated with limited functional mobility, the role of physical activity in mitigating the effects of aging and identifying instruments for assessing dynapenia in the elderly. Methods: The study followed the protocol registered in PROSPERO and the PRISMA guidelines. The search for studies was carried out in the PubMed, Scielo and CAPES Periodicals databases, with inclusion criteria covering original articles in the last five years, elderly people aged ? 60 years, and publications in English or Spanish. The initial electronic search resulted in 1548 manuscripts. The study analysis process involved reading titles, abstracts and full texts. After all these phases, 10 manuscripts met the review inclusion criteria. Results: The studies cover different regions, highlighting the prevalence of dynapenia in the elderly. Analysis of the articles reveals that functional mobility limitations are associated with a lack of physical activity, influenced by behavioral, environmental and mental health factors. Conclusion: The review highlights the importance of assessing dynapenia in the elderly and the need to standardize assessment methods. The study highlights the need for strategies to promote physical activity in the elderly population, considering behavioral and mental health aspects. It is recommended that more detailed studies be carried out on the relationship between dynapenia, functional mobility and clinical studies in the elderly.
