Editorial policies

Editorial policies

In compliance with the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and with Brazilian data protection and copyright legislation, the Journal adopts the following editorial policies:

Privacy policy and Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD)

Names, e-mail addresses and other registration data will be processed, in compliance with the Brazilian General Data Protection Law, exclusively for the purposes of publication and will not be used for any other purpose or disclosed to third parties.

Preprints

The Journal operates double-anonymised peer review. Since the availability of a preprint may compromise the authors' anonymity before the reviewers (https://doi.org/10.24318/R4WByao2), the Journal does not accept the submission of manuscripts previously deposited on preprint servers. Manuscripts in this condition will be archived at the submission stage.

Preprints under a single-blind model

The Journal operates single-blind peer review (the reviewer knows the identity of the authors; the authors do not know the identity of the reviewers). Under this model, the Journal accepts manuscripts previously deposited on recognised preprint servers, provided that the deposit is declared at submission, indicating the server and the identifier (URL or DOI), in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/R4WByao2. A preprint is not equivalent to a peer-reviewed publication. Preprints deposited under a pseudonym are not accepted. Once the version of record has been published, authors are advised to update the preprint record with the link and the DOI of the published article.

Authorship and Consent

Changes to the authorship list: Complete authorship data must be provided at submission. As a rule, the Journal does not allow changes to authorship. The addition or removal of authors, or a change in the order of authorship, will only be accepted where there are well documented reasons justifying the change and exclusively with the formal consent of all authors, in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/a3uvGg2f .

Changes to author names and authorship data: Changes to names and to other registration and affiliation data of authors (e-mail, institution, etc.) do not depend on the submission of any kind of legal documentation. A formal request to the Journal's editorial office suffices. Authors are not required to state reasons for a name change, but may be asked to document changes of institution, e-mail and the like. Requests may concern submissions under review or articles already published. Owing to the technical work involved, the UFTM University Press reserves the right to implement the requested changes according to its availability and resources. The Journal will update, within the shortest operationally feasible time, the public metadata and the records under its control, without publishing an erratum or correction notice, unless expressly requested, in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/eIFdZ8eu .

Authorship not acknowledged: should the Journal receive a claim that a work was submitted in co-authorship without the formal acknowledgement of the claimant, the Journal will request clarification from the authors of the publication. The Journal does not arbitrate authorship disputes. Where the conflict between the authors cannot be resolved, the Journal will refer the matter to the research ethics or research integrity office of the authors' institutions, in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/mDUol1Zm.

TO BE DEFINED

Academic degree requirement: The Journal recommends that at least one of the authors hold a doctoral degree, as recorded in the Lattes CV or ORCID.

The Journal imposes no restrictions as to academic degree or the number of authors per submission

To publish in the Journal, authors must be doctoral candidates or hold a doctoral degree, as recorded in the Lattes CV or ORCID. Manuscripts by holders of a master's degree will be accepted provided they are in co-authorship with doctoral degree holders.

Contributions (CRediT): In the case of multiple authorship, the contribution of each author must be specified. Authors must complete and sign the Declaration of authorship, originality, responsibility and contributions (CRediT), in accordance with the CRediT taxonomy and with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Regardless of the form of contribution, all authors are responsible for the content of the submitted and published manuscript.

Final approval for publication: The Journal will only publish an article after receiving formal approval from all authors, as recommended in https://doi.org/10.24318/vfaOZUuW.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors who use AI tools must declare such use in the Materials and Methods section, or similar, stating the name of the tool and how it was used. Authors are fully responsible for all the content of the manuscript, including the parts produced with the assistance of AI tools, and are liable for any breach of publication ethics, in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/cCVRZBms

Quarantine Policy

The Journal does not accept a submission from the same author (whether as sole author or in co-authorship) within less than two years.

Research ethics

Research ethics committee approval, use of personal data or images and data sharing: In compliance with Brazilian legislation and recommended practice, including, where applicable, the institutional research ethics committee (CEP/INAEP), authors must provide an ethics statement with the approval details at submission (name of the committee, number of the Certificate of Presentation for Ethical Consideration (CAAE) and date of approval) or, where applicable, a statement that the research did not require assessment by a research ethics committee. The Journal does not require a copy of the supporting documentation, but authors must keep it on file and may be required to produce it if requested by the Journal, in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/gc36w97b.

Protection of Vulnerable Individuals and Groups: The Journal adopts international ethical standards concerning research and the publication of research involving vulnerable individuals and groups, in particular the Belmont Report and the guidance of the Economic and Social Research Council (United Kingdom), in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/evKAt8Dc. At submission, authors must declare whether the research involves vulnerable individuals and groups and state the documentation evidencing compliance with these frameworks (including, where applicable, research ethics committee approval, recruitment and consent procedures, and other safeguards). The Journal may request clarification or additional documents before publication. No blanket prohibition is adopted on research or on data sharing concerning vulnerable populations, since such studies may benefit them; however, identifiable individual data (including genetic data) should only be published or deposited where there is specific informed consent for such disclosure and where the risks to participants' privacy and safety have been assessed. Deposit in subject-specific repositories with adequate curation and access controls is preferred (COPE Case 22-12).

Editorial independence and citation

Editorial independence: Decisions on screening, review, acceptance and publication rest exclusively with the editors, who are responsible for the published content, including for decisions taken after publication (correction, expression of concern and retraction). Selection observes quality and fit with the scope, not financial, political, institutional or personal gain. The UFTM University Press does not interfere with the merits of editorial decisions. The Journals Section (Serc) provides technical and integrity support (similarity screening, checks for indications of fraud, systems maintenance, DOI validity and support to editors, authors and reviewers), which does not transfer the editorial decision. The decision-making structures and those responsible for each stage are publicly identified on each Journal's page, in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/wTjdlHE5.

Conflict of interest

Definition: A conflict of interest is a divergence between the private interests of a person or group (financial, professional, institutional or personal) and their responsibilities in scholarly and editorial activity, such that their judgement may be questioned as having been motivated by such interests. Declaration is mandatory for authors, reviewers, editors and members of the editorial board, and remains required also after publication, in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/x0uvqxww.

Conflict of interest of authors: At submission, authors declare all sources of funding and the role of the funder in the design of the study, in the collection, analysis and interpretation of the data, in the writing and in the decision to submit the text, as well as any relationship that may be perceived as a conflict (employment, consultancy, honoraria, stock ownership, patents, paid expert testimony, grants and scholarships). The absence of funding or of any conflict must be expressly declared. The Journal publishes the conflict of interest declarations provided by the authors.

Conflict of interest of reviewers: Beyond the essential task of assessing the manuscript, upon receiving the invitation reviewers must consider any interests that may have affected the production and conclusions of the work, as well as their own relationships and activities. Where they consider that a conflict may exist, they must declare it to the Journal, whether real or potential. They must decline the invitation, or discuss the matter with the Journal before accepting it, where there is a substantive conflict or a personal connection with the research, the authors or the funder. Conflicts include, among others, co-authorship or collaboration in the previous three years, affiliation with the same institution and a close personal relationship. The editors take the reviewers' declarations into account when weighing the review.

Conflict of interest of editors and of the editorial board: Editors exclude themselves from any decision on manuscripts authored by themselves, by family members or by close colleagues, and on texts relating to institutions, products or services in which they have an interest; in such cases, review and decision are conducted independently. Editors' conflicts of interest must be reported as soon as they arise and reviewed periodically. Where a member of the editorial board publishes in the Journal itself, the article carries the conflict declaration and the record of that author's exclusion from the editorial workflow and from peer review, in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/wCRGYT11.

Editors may submit research articles to the Journal itself, provided they exclude themselves entirely from the editorial workflow and from the peer review process (which will be ensured by the Journals Section of the UFTM University Press). Where the Journal has only one editor, a substitute editor must be appointed upon submission of a research article.

Investigation of an undisclosed conflict of interest: Upon receiving an allegation of an undisclosed conflict, including from a reviewer, the Journal will notify the authors and request clarification. If the authors provide the information, the conflict of interest declaration of the manuscript will be corrected and the review will proceed. If they deny the existence of the conflict, the Journal will point out the seriousness of the omission, state the definition adopted and request a formal declaration signed by all authors. The complainant will be informed of the outcome. Where an editorial conflict of interest is suspected in a manuscript or article, the Journal will appoint new reviewers, even after publication, in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/cope.2019.2.6.

TEXTO COPE ORIGINAL (nao publicar) There must be clear definitions of conflicts of interest and processes for handling conflicts of interest of authors, reviewers, editors, journals, and publishers, whether identified before or after publication. COPE position Information on the definitions and processes should be available publicly on the journal website so that readers can consider whether any concerns should be pursued, and if so, how to raise this concern with the journal or publisher. Journals and publishers should have a procedure in place for handling the reporting of competing interests or conflict of interests that arise during or after the publication process. COPE has several flowcharts on how to handle the process in various situations. Generally, where an editorial conflict of interest is suspected for an article, the journal should approach new reviewers, even if this is after publication. Conflicts of interest should be published when an editorial board member publishes in their own journal, so that readers are aware that they recused themselves from the usual editorial and peer review process.

Peer review and correction of the record

Editing of reviewer reports: The Journal may edit reviewer reports as to tone, language or departures from editorial policy. Any changes will be made in collaboration with the reviewers. Such editing will not alter the meaning or intent of the report, nor the professional opinion on the quality, content or intellectual validity of the manuscript, in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/6B0ee5kq.

Request to withdraw a submission: Authors may request the withdrawal of a manuscript, for any reason, up to formal acceptance for publication. The request will be granted provided it is made with the consent of all co-authors, states a formal justification and identifies the submission. Withdrawal is not automatic: the manuscript will remain active until formal confirmation is given by the Journal's editors to the Journals Section of the UFTM University Press. Articles already published will not be withdrawn, in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/wkWgT4l9.

Issuing retractions: The decision to retract material rests with the Journal, in keeping with editorial independence. The Retraction Notice will state who is responsible for the retraction, the reasons and the basis for the decision, and will be linked to the original article. The Journal reserves the right to publish the retraction even where the authors do not agree, in accordance with https://doi.org/10.24318/RYpiIFib.
