The growth of energy production in Brazil is evident. And an analysis of energy sources is necessary for sustainable and economically viable development. A country with torrential hydroelectric potential has as a positive point the production of clean energy compared to other sources. Observing the origin, comparing and understanding the dynamics of the energy sector is a duty of the State and the community. The review of the article proposes an objective understanding of the Brazilian potential and the different sources. In this way, a literature review was carried out to better understand the Brazilian energy scenario. Brazil has the greatest biodiversity on the planet and has a wide variety of climates. The Brazilian electricity supply is centralized in large plants, such as hydroelectric, thermoelectric, wind and solar as the main ones. Hydroelectric plants correspond to approximately 59% of all installed electricity capacity in Brazil, regularly presented as a source of clean and renewable energy. Even with much to be developed, regarding the sustainability of this source, it is still the most viable and clean Brazilian energy channel.
