Abstract

Objectives: The objective of this report is to share the perspective of a medical professional hired by the Programa Mais Médicos, who worked during the year 2019 in indigenous territory, describing the challenges that may be encountered in practice. Methods: A report was conducted based on participant observation by a physician who worked in the Yanomami Indigenous Land during 2019 under the Programa Mais Médicos. The qualitative study covered daily interactions with the Yanomami and Ye'kwana populations, observing cultural, social, and logistical aspects that influenced healthcare practices, while respecting ethical principles of anonymity and confidentiality. Results: The professional experience reveals challenges beyond the medical field, describing a series of lived experiences in a context lacking material and social resources, presenting biopsychosocial perspectives that directly affect healthcare assistance for the population. Conclusion: Medical work in regions such as the Yanomami Indigenous Reserve is challenging and requires specific technical and practical skills. This article reveals possible deficiencies in healthcare assistance for the population. There is a need for further studies addressing the heterogeneity of the population.
