Abstract

This article was developed based on bibliographical research on professional and technological education in Brazil, which has presented profound changes throughout its history, influenced by the political guidelines of each government over time. Its primary purpose is to prepare individuals to perform professions, enabling them to enter and participate effectively in the world of work and life in society. Through documentary and bibliographical research, this article aims to present the main events that shaped the provision of this type of teaching, since its origins, as well as its developments and consequences that culminated in Brazilian public policy. This research revealed that the trajectory of professional and technological education in Brazil was influenced by a complex and fragmented historical process, and an expansion was observed throughout the country at the beginning of the 21st century, reflecting an educational policy aimed at professional training.
