HISTORY DIDACTICS AND PRAXIS: DEMANDS OF HISTORICAL LEARNING BENEATH THE HORIZON OF DECOLONIALITY

Abstract

This article is divided into four sections that follow the structure of the presentation delivered at the “41st History Week – Teaching History in Contemporary Times: Decoloniality, Public History, and the Platformization of Education – 2nd Meeting on History Teaching at UNESP Assis and Franca,” which bore the same title as this paper. In the first section, we present our interpretation of the theory of the narrativist paradigm of historical praxis, based on Jörn Rüsen, from a perspective informed by elements of materialism, through the relationship between History Didactics and the concept of praxis. In the second section, we analyze statements made by students enrolled in the Technical Integrated Education Program with High School at the Federal Institute of Paraná (Curitiba Campus), focusing on their needs regarding historical learning. In the third section, we engage in a focused dialogue with decoloniality in order to explain the meaning of the expression “beneath the horizon of decoloniality” present in the title of the paper. Finally, we present considerations regarding the relationship between these theoretical elements and possible theoretical-methodological developments in History Didactics from a perspective connected to the Brazilian reality, involving the dialogue between History teaching and contemporaneity. This discussion confronts us with a complex scenario concerning the working with History in times of platform capitalism.
