Abstract

This article is derived from the research of the Latin American group EArte that is developed as part of the Collective of Researchers in Higher Environmental Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (EArte-ALyC) where UNAM is a participating entity. It focuses on the analysis of 19 theses related to environmental education that were carried out in the period from 1976 to 2019, in the Master's Program in Teaching for Higher Secondary Education of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (MADEMS-UNAM). To give context to the research, the main problems faced by Higher Secondary Education in Mexico are briefly exposed and said program is described.

Among the research findings, it is found that the curriculum of this program lacks a space for the teaching of Environmental Education, however, most of the theses address an environmental issue and the educational strategies for its teaching. Therefore, it is observed that the concepts related to Environmental Education derive from one of the central contents of the master's degree, that is, sustainable development.

Therefore, it is concluded that it is necessary for this program to reinforce in-depth training on Environmental Education for a greater impact on social actions.
