The research presents a brief trajectory of the historical context, as well as the main legal frameworks and legislation that contemplate the theme of Rural Education in Brazil, seeking after this deepening to map the rural communities and schools in the countryside of Divinópolis (MG) in order to characterize the scenario of education for rural students in this territory. For this, the methodological perspective took place from documentary studies, investigative and exploratory analyses, which were organized from some important points: identification of the main challenges encountered by the subjects of the field in the educational process; difficulties faced by teachers due to lack of incentives for training; identification of whether the Universities/Faculties in the municipality offer training courses for Rural Educators; and, above all, a general analysis – according to the data collected from the responsible bodies – about the effectiveness of public policies in the rural educational context of the municipality.
