Abstract

Objective, to verify the lethality rate of evolution to death by Covid-19 in a group of self-reported obese people and to analyze the associated factors from the database of the e-SUS Notifica portal. Method, the study is a descriptive analysis of secondary data from symptomatic patients with COVID-19 treated in the city of Porto Velho, Brazil, from June 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021. Results, the results highlight that obesity is a risk factor for death in patients with COVID-19 and that other factors, such as advanced age and the presence of comorbidities, also increase the risk of mortality from COVID-19 in obese patients. Conclusion, these findings emphasize the need for prevention and control of obesity and its comorbidities to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on the obese population.
