Abstract

The work carried out explores the integration of biorefineries in the brewing industry with the aim of promoting environmental sustainability through the use of by-products, such as malt bagasse. The methodology adopted involves a detailed literature review, focusing on scientific articles from the last five years that discuss the use of biorefineries in the brewing industry to convert waste into value-added products. The work demonstrates that acid and enzymatic hydrolysis processes are effective in breaking the complex bonds of biomass, facilitating the release of fermentable sugars and bioactive compounds, with potential for the production of bioethanol and other bioproducts. The main results of the study indicate that the application of biorefineries can significantly reduce waste generation, promoting the reuse of malt bagasse in various products, such as biofuels, functional foods, and biodegradable materials. The integration of technologies not only contributes to reducing environmental impact, but also offers economic benefits, increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of the brewing industry.
