Abstract

Currently, one of the main causes of species extinction is the introduction of exotic species. Melanoides tuberculata is a species of tropical and subtropical freshwater gastropod mollusk, of African-Asian origin. They are prolific and generalist. Populations adapt well to diverse inland aquatic environments, including anthropic ones. They have different attributes, including the condition factor, which expresses the relationship between a two-dimensional and a three-dimensional variable of organisms. The condition factor can be used on many different organisms, such as crustaceans, molluscs, fish, frogs or mammals. The aim of this work was to describe the allometric relationship in Melanoides tuberculata. Ninety individuals of Melanoides tuberculata were collected. The function that best described the condition factor for Melanoides tuberculata was the relationship between the width of the shells and their volume, in the potency function.
